Past Events
Since its launch in late 2013, the R&V Foundation has held successful events in both the UK and in France designed to raise awareness of its work, celebrate poetry and Anglo-French cultural exchange, and promote the creation of the ‘poetry house’ at No 8 Royal College Street. Events already run by the Foundation include the following:

Jan Patočka (1907-1977) was a Czech philosopher and phenomenologist and is regarded as one of the most important philosophers of the 20 th century. Care for the soul lies at the heart of Patočka’s thought. With his exploration of the basis of a shared European identity, his emphasis on freedom and truth, on the value of the arts, and on the importance of civil society, Patočka’s ideas are now more relevant than ever.

Charles Baudelaire was the original flâneur poet, embodying the spirit of the curious wanderer. One hundred and fifty years after his death, join Poet in the City and the Rimbaud and Verlaine Foundation as we traverse the psychogeography of the city and explore the extraordinary impact of this writer through discussion and poetry.
We will be joined by modern day Professors Helen Abbott, Matthew Beaumont, Flâneuse Lauren Elkin and performance artist Dylan Read to tell the story of the father of flâneurie and celebrate his resounding legacy.
