Chinese Wine Tasting

Blacks Club - 67 Dean St, Soho, London W1D 4QH
Nov 26th 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

With wine expert Janet Z Wang

The Chinese have been making wine since the days of the Silk Road and they have a rich, yet little known wine culture. Their now thriving wine market is entwined with thousands of years of fashion, poetry, and art, and offers a window into the country's vibrant history and legendary tales. Janet Z Wang has written the first definitive guide to this rapidly developing wine industry, which is set to become a major player in the world wine industry.

Janet will offer a taste of China through a wine journey, setting the rise of grape wine against the fascinating backdrop of Chinese culture. An accessible and talented communicator, Janet will describe the renaissance of grape wine in modern China, the different varieties of Chinese wines, and how to pair them with Chinese food.

Her talk will be accompanied by tastings of 5-6 of top Chinese wines, some of which echo the finest wines of Bordeaux or Chablis, others of which offer a new and distinctively Chinese palette.

Janet Z Wang spent her formative years in China before completing her education in the UK. She has a passionate interest in and deep knowledge of Chinese wines, and she is a contributing author on decanterchina.com, a bi-lingual website presented by Decanter the world's leading wine media brand. Her wine writing has been shortlisted for the Circle of Wine Writers' Young Wine Writer's Award.

The Chinese Wine Renaissance - A Wine Lover’s Companion – by Janet Z Wang, was published by Penguin Randomhouse in Jan 2019, ISBN: 9781473566033. Copies will be on sale at the event.
