Lieder ohne Grenzen means ‘songs without borders’ and German Lieder are without doubt one of the greatest achievements of European musical culture. They provide stunning insights into both the Romantic movement and the birth of the modern world that flowed from it. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear great music performed by some of the UK’s most talented young classical singers.
Interweaving roles as pianist and Sony Award-winning broadcaster with equal aplomb, Iain Burnside (“pretty much ideal” BBC Music Magazine) is also a master programmer and he has performed in recital with many of the world’s leading singers. Following a period as Artist in Residence at the National Opera Studio, Iain will introduce Lieder ohne Grenzen, an evening of German song performed by NOS Young Artists.
